Business, Economics and Law Postgraduate Scholarships for Indonesia & Thailand, University of Adelaide, Australia


The Faculty of the Professions’ Business, Economics and Law (BEL) Postgraduate Scholarships are available to Indonesian and Thai students who are seeking entry into one of the priority programs (see Annex A) in Semester 1 of 2012. The Scholarship provides a one-off payment for living allowances under the conditions described below.

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for consideration a student must:

Have applied to study in one of the priority programs at the Faculty of the Professions and be offered admission into Semester 1 of 2012 at the University of Adelaide
Commence an academic program for the first time at the University of Adelaide
Be a citizen of either Indonesia or Thailand
Selection Criteria
The Scholarships will be awarded for academic excellence to outstanding Indonesian and Thai students. Applications will be assessed on the basis of:


Cumulative Grade Point Average of a recognised Bachelor or Master Degree; and
Statement of Purpose supplied to the University of Adelaide
Extra-curricular achievements will not be considered. Applicants in receipt of other scholarships are eligible to apply.

In order to be selected as a Scholarship recipient, an applicant must:

Achieve the required Cumulative Grade Point Average (see Annex B) and
Furnish a Statement of Purpose which is shortlisted by the Faculty for the award of a Scholarship

Benefits
The University will grant up to five Scholarships of AUD $5000 each to applicants commencing in one of the priority postgraduate coursework degrees at the Faculty of the Professions in Semester 1 of 2012. The Scholarship provides a one-off payment for living allowances only and will be paid to the Scholarship recipient upon their arrival in Adelaide.

VISA Entitlement and Requirements
Scholarship recipients are required to meet the cost of compulsory Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), tuition fees, living costs and cost of return airfares. These costs will not be covered by the Scholarship.

Commencement
The Scholarship must be taken up in the semester and year for which it is offered. If no response is received by a specific deadline, the offer of the Scholarship will lapse and will be offered to the next eligible candidate.

The University may withdraw the Scholarship if a candidate fails to provide any required documentation or provide false or misleading documentation.

Deferment and Withdrawal
It is not possible to defer the award and the Scholarship cannot be transferred to any other institution.

Students who subsequently withdraw from their program of study at the University before the census date for Semester 1 (31 March 2012) must repay the Scholarship to the University in its entirety. Any outstanding repayments will be deducted from the tuition fee refund.

Students who change their program of study outside the listed program (see Annex A) before the census date for Semester 1 (31 March 2012) must repay the Scholarship to the Faculty in its entirety. Any outstanding repayments will be deducted from future tuition fee.

Application Process
An application for admission to the University in Semester 1 of 2012 will constitute an application for a Scholarship provided that a Statement of Purpose is forwarded separately to the Faculty by 31 October 2011.

The Statement of Purpose should contain no more than 500 words, detailing why the candidate is interested in undertaking a postgraduate degree at the University of Adelaide and how the knowledge gained will shape his/her future. The Statement of Purpose must be lodged electronically through edwin.s.leow@adelaide.edu.au by 31 October 2011.

Successful recipients will receive a Scholarship Offer from the University by 20 December 2011.

The University reserves the right not to award the Scholarships if there are no candidates of sufficient merit as determined in each case, or to amend the availability of Scholarships and/or the information provided in the Scholarships details at anytime.
